"Focused on the Female"
GOALS
We are working to produce excellent Limousin cattle for commercial cattlemen and seed stock producers. Seeking traits that increase profitability: muscle, maternal, docility & calving ease. Utilizing the tools at our disposal: Texas A & M University, Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Lab, NALF and other breed related associations. We try to stay on top of new developments within the Beef Industry in its constantly changing environment. We try our best to pass the information on to our customers. Our success depends on the success of our customers. We also try and encourage our customers to utilize the special markets available to Limousin sired calves. There are several boutique markets that pay a premium for Limousin sired, lean, muscular calves.
We have been utilizing a few of our Fullblood females in a crossbreeding program with our Fullblood Brahman bull to produce F-1 females for use as commercial females. We use the male F-1 calves for terminal cross production, and have registered the F-1 females with the Brahmousin Association. We have had several of our F-1’s do extremely well in the Brahmousin TCCA Show circuit, placing in the top five three years in a row.
We feel the F-1 maximizes the hybrid vigor of the best qualities of both breeds. We have females with strong maternal character, heat and disease resistance, good muscling ability and temperament, while maintaining a moderate mature cow weight that can sustain well in the hot Texas climate with minimal forage availability.
We have also been using French genetics to put more muscle and performance into are replacement females. We are slowly fazing out most of our purebred Limousin in order to increase the number of Fullblood females in our production herd.
Our bull production focuses on producing docile, functional bulls. Well developed, not over fed, able to cover long distances in order to service a cow herd. We rotate several 15+ acre traps where the bulls have to walk a good distance to water and the feed bunk where they are fed once daily a moderate volume developing feed ration.
We have been using a few of our select home raised herd sires at 12 months of age on our yearling heifers, to produce some really outstanding calves. The females kept back from these matings are awesome, and have really deepened the quality of the herd.
Visitors to the ranch are welcome, just call ahead for directions, we enjoy showing off our herd as well as the calf crop. If you enjoy Bass fishing, bring your pole we have several tanks stocked with Florida Bass, and one with Crappie.
